History
Officially inaugurated on May 12, 1940, the Interlagos Racetrack was renamed in 1985 as Autódromo José Carlos Pace, in honor of the São Paulo-born driver who won the 1975 Brazilian Grand Prix. The complex is the home of the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix and one of the most traditional circuits in world motorsport. Beyond racing, the racetrack has established itself as one of São Paulo’s main open-air venues, hosting concerts by international artists and large-scale festivals throughout the year.
The Experience
The Autódromo de Interlagos is an open-air multipurpose complex, with wide standing areas and grandstands that allow concerts and festivals for tens of thousands of people. For musical events, the stage structure is usually set up in the inner areas of the circuit, with access divided into sectors. Since it is far from the city center, getting there requires planning: the Autódromo station, on Line 9-Esmeralda (CPTM), is the main public transportation option on event days.
